Background and Aims:

Epidermolysis bullosa is a group of inherited rare diseases characterized by the appearance of skin blistering after minimal trauma and then, retractile scars that can affect the airway. These patients´ life expectancy has recently been increased a lot, and so adult patients may require several surgical procedures, in a anesthetic management. We must give special attention to patient positioning, channeling venous lines, administration of anesthetic agents and the airway manipulation, in order to avoid new lesions to be appeared.

Methods:

We report the case of an adult patient who was scheduled for laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy in general anesthesia combined with rectus sheath block. We describe the placement of the patient and the establishment of a secure airway (endotracheal intubation) without any complication.

Results:

At the end of the surgery, the patient arrived at Postoperative Recovery Unit. She referred no pain at all and there was no blisters through the body.

15 days after, she carried out her active lifestyle at all

Conclusions:

We described an anesthesic technique without any problem in a patient with epidermolysis
