Background and Aims:

Vasomotor symptoms occur with an incidence of 80% in menopausal women and their severity is greater after surgical removal of the ovaries.

To evaluate the efficacy of stellate ganglion block in preventing menopausal symptoms after double oophorectomy.

METHODS: After Ethics Committee approval with 15-312 PI code, a retrospective comparative clinical study was conducted on a sample of 60 patients with inclusion criteria (signed informed consent, age> 18 years, premenopausal, where cancer surgery extirpated both ovaries and ASA I-III) and no exclusion criteria (hypersensitivity to drugs used, mental disability, contraindication for stellate ganglion block). Previous randomization, were divided into two groups: GROUP GE (stellate ganglion) right stellate ganglion block level C6 with ropivacaine 0.2% (6 cc); and Group II (control group). We noted demographics (age, gender), comorbidity (ASA) and complications dued to the anesthetic technique, and menopause scale score at discharge, the month after surgery and six months after surgery (Table 1).Descriptive statistical analysis of the variables studied, using Chi square test for discrete variables and the 't' Student test for continuous variables in the comparison between groups was considered significant values whose p <0.05.

We found best menopausal scores in the group per month intervention. No complications due to the technique were registered.

Stellate ganglion block could prevent menopausal symptoms if contraindication to hormone therapy
