CONTINUOUS PERIPHERAL NERVE BLOCK (CPNB ) WITH THE USE OF CERTA CATHETER™ . CASE SERIES

Background and Aims:

Dislocation of catheters   can achieve 15 % .  Recently,  Certa Catheter was proposed to minimize this problem by CPNB .  The aim of this study is to assess this method in the postoperative setting .


Methods:

  A retrospective case series with insertion Certa Catheter™  ( Ferrosan Medical Devices Sp. z.o.o. ) was carried out on 28 patients . Visibility of the  needle and catheter on a scale from 0 to 4 ( 0- invisible, 4- excellent  ), dislocation ( distance from the hole of catheter to the nerve during  insertion and after 24 h., the length of distal part catheter )  .  Leakage,skin redness, local site infection and nerve injury were recorded .

Results:

15 pts had continuous adductor canal block (ACB ), 8 patients had  continuous  popliteal fossa block (PFB ), 3 patients had subgluteal sciatic nerve block(SubglSNB ), 2 patients had  serratus plane block  (SerPB) .2 patients  with ACB  and  SubglSNB  were  excluded from investigation . Postoperative analgesia was successful in all 26  patients ( NRS 1-4 points ) .  Visibility was 3-4 points ( mean 3, 8 ) . dislocation after 24 h  was 8 ± 4 mm .  Skin redness –  2 cases . There was no local site infection and nerve injury after removing Certa Catheter™


Conclusions:

             Our preliminary experience shows that Certa Catheter can be used successfully and 

           safely . Dislocation may be restricted due to better anchoring this type of catheter.                              

            Further clinical studies to be carried out.
